Top 5 Items for your Agenda in Guía de Isora and Tenerife in February

February agenda Tenerife

This month our chosen activities range from the quiet contemplation invited by photography exhibits and classical concerts to the madcap public celebrations that accompany Carnival. As always, Tenerife holidays offer something for everyone.

1. Las Candelas – Popular festival

1st – 2nd of February

The Virgin of Candelaria, the patron saint of the Canary Islands, is celebrated in a number of locations on the archipelago around the 2nd of February. But one event not to be missed is the procession through the streets of Candelaria, Tenerife, after the sun sets on the 1st of February. The town lights are extinguished and replaced by silence and residents carrying thousands of candles: a unique experience indeed. Plan an evening trip to see this awe-inspiring yearly tradition.

For more information, contact the Department of Culture and Festivals:
Edificio Zona Joven C/ Pasacola S/N
38530 Punta Larga. Candelaria

2. Symphonic Orchestra Concerts

4th of February, 20:30h – POP’s “Symphonic Queen”
19th of February, 20:30h – Mussorgsky, Khachaturian and Rachmaninoff
26th of February, 20:30h – Mozart, Strauss and Beethoven

February proves to be a great month to hear the Tenerife Symphonic Orchestra, with three varied concerts on the 4th, the 19th and the 26th. No matter your classical tastes, the OST will fit the bill.

Adán Martín Tenerife Auditorium
Av. Constitución, 1, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

3. Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival

3rd – 14th of February

One of the most famous of Europe’s Carnival celebrations, the Santa Cruz Carnival is internationally recognized and celebrated in the streets by hundreds of thousands of people. The programme begins in mid-January with galas, concerts, events and mini-festivals, and heats up during the 10 official days of celebration at the beginning of February. For the programme of activities and more information about times and locations, see the Carnival website.

4. Quantum Ensemble – Chamber music concert

18th of February, 20:30h – “I want to live in America”

For those who prefer to enjoy music that packs a punch on a smaller scale, Quantum Ensemble offers an interesting proposition on the 18th. In support of the belief that most 20th Century American music owes a great debt to Latin American popular culture of that time, this quartet of violin, clarinet, guitar and piano combines works of Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein with pieces from important Latin American composers of the period: Heitor Villalobos, Alberto Ginastera y Astor Piazzola.
